Upcycled Jean Backpack

You probably have an old pair of jeans in the back of the wardrobe so why not recycle them and make them into something practical and useful? Using many of the elements of your jeans (or something similar) you can create one of these unique drawstring, fully lined, hardwearing backpacks with pull in toggle & adjustable straps. The size of your backpack will depend on the size of your jeans. You'll never want to throw another pair away once you've made one of these!

You will learn:

  • how to design & cut your jeans to make the most of the fabric
  • how to add a base
  • to add a band with eyelets & drawstring
  • to add adjustable straps
  • to add a lining & pocket (optional)

Additional costs: You will need an old pair of jeans (or similar). Half a metre of fabric (or old shirt etc) for lining, I have fabric for the base but if you want a particular colour/fabric please bring a quarter metre (I used pin cord but you could also use the denim). Eyelets, toggle, sliders & pull cord are included in the cost but if you want a particular colour please bring your own.

Suitable for: Someone who can use a sewing machine.
