Making a (Victorian style) Corset

Corsets are as popular as ever and can be worn in a variety of ways for various occasions. Whether you want a bit of glamour, the burlesque look or as part of your wedding dress these versatile garments will take inches off your waist for that sensual curvaceous look. The corset you make during the workshop can be the main bodice to your wedding dress or ballgown, advice on making a coordinating skirt will be available during the workshop if required.

Learn to make a lovely bespoke boned and lined back laced corset to fit you perfectly. You can choose to make an under corset or one that can be worn as an outer garment in colours of your choice.  Corsets can be made in a variety of fabrics and elaborately or delicately trimmed to suit your own personal preference. All corsets are hand finished to give a professional look.

What you will learn

  • How the corset is constructed with various layers
  • How to construct  and fit the corset using multiple layers and the pattern provided (multi sizes available)
  • Sewing on casings and inserting metal steels    
  • Finishing  with bias and other trimmings
  • Inserting godets
  • Inserting eyelets


Knowledge level:
Intermediate, you should be confident using a sewing machine .

Additional Costs: None, all materials, equipment and refreshments are included in the price.

Please Note: Fabric and bias is provided but if there is a particular colour, pattern you would like then you are welcome to supply your own (please email for quantities). Suggested fabrics; brocade, duchess satin, taffeta, dupion silk, jacquards.
